Tapa cloth is a traditional Samoan fabric made from the inner bark of the paper mulberry tree. The process of creating Siapo involves several stages, including harvesting, soaking, and beating the bark to create a fine cloth. The cloth is then decorated with intricate geometric patterns and natural dyes derived from plants and minerals. Historically, tapa cloth has played a vital role in Samoan society and is used in various ceremonies, including weddings, funerals, and other significant events.
